Selection Process (No GATE Required! CBT must)

Unlike some previous recruitments, the SAIL MT 2025 selection will be conducted without the GATE score. The process will involve three key stages:

Stage 1: Computer-Based Test (CBT

·        Mode: Online

·        Duration: 120 Minutes (2 Hours)

·        Total Marks: 200 Marks

·        Exam Pattern: The test is generally divided into two parts:

1.     Domain Knowledge Test (100 Marks): 100 questions from the respective Engineering Discipline.

2.     Aptitude Test (100 Marks): 100 questions covering:

§  Quantitative Aptitude

§  Reasoning Ability

§  English Language

§  General Awareness

Domain Knowledge: The Cornerstone of Your Preparation

To ensure success in the SAIL MT (T) CBT, candidates must recognize that 50% weightage is directly assigned to the Domain Knowledge Test (100 Marks). This means that a deep and clear understanding of your respective Engineering discipline (e.g., Electrical, Mechanical, or Metallurgy) will be the deciding factor in securing your spot on the final merit list. While aptitude is important, aspirants should allocate significant preparation time to mastering the fundamental principles, applications, and critical formulas of their core engineering subjects, as this section offers the highest potential for scoring well.

While technical prowess is essential, candidates often underestimate the General Awareness (GA) section. This section serves as a crucial differentiator, testing your knowledge of current national and international affairs, economic news (especially related to the steel sector and PSUs), static GK, and industrial developments. Since the GA section is less time-consuming during the exam compared to technical or quantitative sections, securing high marks here is an excellent strategy to boost your overall score and gain a competitive edge over other candidates.

Stage 2: Group Discussion (GD) & Personal Interview (PI)

·        Candidates will be shortlisted for the GD and PI in a 1:3 ratio (3 candidates for every 1 vacancy).

·        The GD assesses communication, leadership, and analytical skills, while the PI evaluates technical knowledge and personality.

Stage 3: Medical Examination

·        Provisionally selected candidates will have to undergo a medical fitness examination as per SAIL's standards.

Final Merit List

The final selection will be based on the combined performance in the Computer-Based Test and the Group Discussion/Personal Interview. (Generally, CBT is given 85% weightage, and GD/PI is given 15% weightage).

Salary and Perks

Candidates selected as Management Trainees will join in the E-1 Grade.

·        During Training: They will receive a Basic Pay of ₹50,000/- in the pay scale of ₹50,000 – ₹1,60,000/-.

·        After Successful Training: They will be designated as Assistant Manager in the E-1 Grade with a revised pay scale of ₹60,000 – ₹1,80,000/-.

·        The approximate Cost to Company (CTC) at the Assistant Manager level is around ₹16-17 Lakhs per annum (excluding PRP and location-based allowances).
