For some posts, a written test, physical measurement, and/or a driving test may also be part of the process. Shortlisted candidates are called for document verification.

AAI: What is GATE

The Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) is a national-level examination in India that primarily assesses the comprehensive understanding of various undergraduate subjects in engineering, technology, architecture, science, commerce, and arts. It is jointly conducted by the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) and seven Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs).

The GATE score card is an official document issued to candidates who have qualified for the exam by scoring equal to or more than the cutoff marks for their respective paper and category. The score card contains important details, including:

·        Total Marks: The raw marks a candidate scored out of 100.

·        GATE Score: A scaled score out of 1000, which reflects the candidate's relative performance.

·        All India Rank (AIR): The candidate's rank among all test-takers in that particular paper.

·        Qualifying Marks: The minimum marks required to qualify for the exam in different categories (General, OBC, SC/ST/PwD).

Validity and Usage

A GATE score card is generally valid for three years from the date of the result announcement. This score is used for a variety of purposes, including:

·        Postgraduate Admissions: Securing admission to Master's (M.E./M.Tech) and Ph.D. programs in top institutions like IITs, NITs, and other universities in India.

·        Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs): Many public sector companies, including the Airports Authority of India (AAI), use GATE scores as a primary criterion for recruiting graduate engineers.

·        Research Opportunities: The score is also used for admission to research programs and fellowships in various government organizations.

·        International Opportunities: Some foreign universities, particularly in Singapore and Germany, also consider GATE scores for admission to their postgraduate programs.

It's important to note that while the score card's validity is three years for academic admissions, for many PSU recruitments, the score is often considered valid for only one year. Therefore, candidates applying for AAI or other PSUs must ensure they have a valid score from the relevant year as specified in the recruitment notification.
