Deep Dive into
CTET 2026 Eligibility Criteria
The CTET exam is divided into two papers, and the
eligibility differs slightly for each. Candidates must ensure they meet the
criteria prescribed by the National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE).
A. Paper I
Eligibility (Primary Teacher: Classes I to V)
· Senior Secondary (or equivalent) with at least 50%
marks and passed or appearing in the final year of a 2-year Diploma in
Elementary Education (D.El.Ed.).
OR
· Graduation with at least 50%
marks and passed or appearing in a Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.) program. (Note: B.Ed. qualification holders must mandatorily undergo a
6-month Bridge Course after appointment).
B. Paper II
Eligibility (Elementary Teacher: Classes VI to VIII)
· Graduation with at least 50% marks and passed or
appearing in the final year of a 2-year Diploma in Elementary Education
(D.El.Ed.).
OR
· Graduation with at least 50%
marks and passed or appearing in a 1-year/2-year Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.) program.
Unique Expert Insight: The most
crucial point to note is the "appearing in the final year" clause.
This means even if you are in the final year of your teacher training course,
you are eligible to apply. Don't wait for your final
result!
Understanding the pattern is 50% of the
preparation. Both Paper I and Paper II are OMR-based (Offline) and consist of
150 Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs), each carrying 1 mark.
